Diagnostics & check-engine
You drove home with the car shaking and a misfire code on the dash. We read the codes, look for the cause, and tell you what we think before we touch anything — including when the right answer is the dealer.
Diagnostics, brakes, oil changes, timing belts, and engine work on Mt Pleasant Rd — the kind of plain, honest assessment that lets you decide what to do, then does it for a fair price.
Routine repairs & jobs
Drawn from the work customers describe again and again: ordinary maintenance, careful diagnostics, and the small, real fixes that keep a Toronto car on the road another year.

The simple, on-the-clock visits: oil, filters, top-ups, a quick look around the engine bay. Book it ahead and we’ll have the bay ready when you arrive.
Pads, rotors, calipers, lines, fluid. We diagnose what’s actually worn before we quote, then fit only what the car needs.
The scheduled-mileage jobs that keep an engine quietly running — timing belt, serpentine, tensioners, idlers. Replaced on the manufacturer’s interval, not the calendar’s.
Misfires, rough idle, that subtle hesitation under load. Plugs and coils are usually the cheap fix — we test before we replace.
The small drip on the driveway, the faint smell of burning oil at the lights. Valve cover gaskets, PCV-related leaks, and the surrounding seals — tracked down and replaced.
The full Monday-to-Friday list — suspension, exhaust, batteries, fluids, the noises that turned up on the way to work. Call first; we’ll tell you whether to bring it in or to a specialist.
Throughout the process I appreciated John’s honesty. He did not jump to try and take my money but rather, gave me the facts and let me decide and weigh it out.

I am very grateful to John and the team at Mount Pleasant Auto Service. After driving home in a panic with my car shaking with each slow-down, I called John for advice and he told me upfront that he felt it was an engine problem and something I should have looked at by the dealer given the history with Hyundai engines. I noticed the engine light was on and there were cylinder misfire codes that could have contributed and caused the shaking. John agreed to take a look, assessed, and had the team replace spark plugs and coils after getting the okay.
Throughout the process, he kept me informed and also reminded me that it may not fix the problem entirely. I still agreed and almost a month later, the car is running great (knock on wood). Throughout the process I appreciated John’s honesty. He did not jump to try and take my money but rather, gave me the facts and let me decide and weigh it out. The price was fair and I feel confident in the quality of service. I’m glad to have a trusted mechanic in the neighborhood and will definitely return whenever my car is in need.
